Doran’s band The Ghost Frequency were wild. Death defying stage jumps, a regular feature on Zane Lowe’s Radio 1 show, high rollers in the NME Club charts, nearly a million plays on Myspace and Last FM, flying high on a support tour with Hadouken and then all of a sudden they split up. These things happen.

The thing is their fusion of electronic music/ synths and punk rock is really unique, new bands now cite them as an influence. Zombie punk as it was coined by some, was a vital part of the new generation of hardcore punk that is coming from the UK and The Ghost Frequency were at the front end all the way to the point they split up. We wanted in. So with Doran agreeing to release the musical aspect of the late Ghost Frequency, the classy ‘Electric Teeth’ album was assembled. Doran didn’t just stop with some of the energy pounding lead tracks that the band became so well known for, but added a whole bunch of stems, riffs and electronic bites that make this a unique album and a truly British musical reference point.

Charming and unique, individual and idiosyncratic, yet always with an air of something familiar and gratifying. Sometimes eccentric and quirky right before being pleasingly predictable. Utterly melodious. Bold and bright. Thoughtful, insightful, then off hand and humorous. Hear it for yourself.

Song writing and melody is at the helm of what I do, followed closely by sharp guitars and a strong, soulful voice. My influences run from the likes of David Byrne, Paul Simon and Randy Newman to Eminem, Michael Jackson and Van Halen… and everything good in-between. I love good music. As a result there is a certain diversity to the outcome of my writing, yet I always try to structure it in an accessible manner.

Having released the debut album “One Day i…” (Jalapeno Records, London, 2005) I then went on to self record and release a mini album (“Big Light” 07) and an E.P (“What ilk?”08) Since the first album I have had to find my own ways of framing and recording the songs, largely due to a lack of decent equipment and recording time. I always endeavoured to carve my own path as an artist.

It has become life like that of a journey man; Getting involved with the turbulence of labels and management only to then find myself totally alone again three years later was just the beginning. I have worked on many projects whilst always pushing my own work forward. Notably I worked as writer for the break-beat collective “IKON,” with which I saw the songs I co-wrote appear in Pete Tongs “Eclectic Mix” and then as the collective we performed at BBC RADIO 1’s “Live Weekend” as well as the Big Chill festival.

I’ve performed extensively and all over the world, including SXSW in Texas. I’ve toured Holland and Belgium numerous times over the last two years and have begun to make an impact there. I began to build a great team around me in Holland and have had national radio plays and support from big Radio DJ’s as well as having supported some of the bigger acts in the larger venues, always pulling in lots of new fans with each new trip. However, last year I suffered a massive blow with the untimely death of my then manager and good friend, Tim Westnutt. Almost back to square one again, only with a little more history in the bag.

So here I am, working on completion of my new album with a view to returning to Holland in 2010 to further the success there as well as to stimulate the attention in the U.K.

There’s much I have missed out but time is short.

I live in Sheffield if you deem that important.

Glad to make your acquaintance.

Come follow me…..

Ian Britt is on PED F026 – “Transatlantic song & sound”

So it goes kinda like this. Tom Greenwood was in the studio, recording guitar on some dub tracks that we were writing together for tape loops. At the end of a particularly inspiring session he phones Finley and blasts him an early version of milk and honey over the phone -- old skool. Finley says yes please and a few days later he drops by with lyrics and records his vocals over all the dubs in one take -- even more old skool!!! Seeing as the entire album was mixed to tape -- we decided to release the songs as ‘Tape Loops’ on Pedigree Cuts (PEDF009).
Killers

We’ve all hidden things from the one we love. Whether it’s our secret love for Chris De Burgh or that rash that just won’t go away, secrecy is an unavoidable element of a relationship.
Jen Kornfeldt (Katherine Heigl) is recovering from a bad break-up when she meets Spencer Aimes (Ashton Kutcher). Cut to three years later and they’re enjoying a picture-perfect marriage.
But Spencer has been keeping something from Jen. Just the small fact that he’s actually an undercover, government-hired super-assassin. Jen is suitably, ermmm, surprised and even more so when she discovers that he’s the target of a multi-million dollar hit. Worse still, hired killers have been stalking the couple for years, and could be anyone: friends, neighbours, even that weird old guy shuffling across the street.
Now Spencer and Jen are on the run for their lives. As their suburban paradise turns into a paranoid game of dodge-the-bullet, they must find out who wants Spencer dead and why, all the while trying to save their marriage, manage his pain-in-the-ass in-laws, keep up neighbourly appearances…and just plain survive.
And you thought suburban life was easy.
One of the Summer’s biggest movies makes its way to the big screen on June 16th and you can find out more HERE

She also remixed the b52’s, made a record with Lou Reed, started a band called The O’s with Smashing Pumpkin co-founder James Iha, was the guest vocalist on Scott Walkers recent album The Drift and was invited by Ennio Morricone to contribute a track to his tribute album alongside Springsteen, Metallica, Quincy Jones and the maestro himself.

Who says machines have no emotions?

We have 16 cuts here that prove, once and for all, that there is an electronic soul. This album traverses the entire gammut of human experience – From the sublime, to the mournful, euphoric and sometimes downright disturbing. It is a work of synthetic discovery, pushing the limits of what can be achieved with analog and digital synthesis. It is also a work of careful fusion, seamlessly inter-weaving the human with the mechanical.

Take, as an example the first track “you see me” – a piece of music born from the sounds of nature, whose slowly evolving acoustic imagery is eventually uncomfortably integrated with waves of pulsating electronics. A metaphor perhaps of the 21st century experience – The equlibrium between the old, and the new – the present and the future? Or an insight into the psyche of a synth-nut whose had one too many disco-biscuits? We reckon its probably a bit of both – but either way – the music makes a compelling case!

Dont make any plans for the next 40 mins – this one sucks you in.

For this album, we had to call in the big guns… So new to the familia are Lenny Ibizarre, Charlie May & Duncan Forbes (aka Spooky)

You cant go to Ibiza without bumping into Lenny. The dude is Ibiza and his label, Ibizarre records, has become internationally renowned for its Ambient grooves and Balearic chill out. We’ve been mates with Lenny since the early 90s when we all shared a studio in Brighton that was exclusively heated by analog synths! It was time to give the dog a bone and unleash him on what he does best. You can hear Lenny on 4 sublime cuts of the album. Thanks man!

Charlie May & Duncan Forbes (aka Spooky) first met in the 90’s making records for William Orbit’s Guerrilla Records. After their critically acclaimed debut release ‘Gargantuan’ they’ve gone on to release 2 more LP’s. Charlie’s co-writing and production skills have been behind many of Sasha’s worldwide hits (Xpander/ Airdrawndagger/Scorchio)and he is currently taking time out from his solo touring to be in Sasha’s NY studio with Barry Jamieson working on new Sasha records as well as cuts for his solo record due to come out soon. Check Charlie talking about ‘Night Light’, one of the tracks on ‘Electrolysis’.

We just had to make this album. Oh yes we did, and boy we’re glad we did. It was a long time coming but often the best things are, aren’t they?

So what are the Dope Beatz – how to annotate downtempo thematic head nodding bangers that make your skin goose pimple and time roll just that little bit slower?

Alex and I weren’t in the studio making the record, the honours were redistributed to new label man Dan Berridge, Rennie Pilgrem, Tom and Ingo (aka Ancient Astronauts), Dimitri and the mighty Shawn Lee.

It was kinda cool we got all this talent on one record. It doesn’t come around like that every day of course. I guess we all knew making this record was a good idea. Tom and Ingo had just dropped back to Germany from their second US tour supporting Thievery Corp. Shawn Lee had just finished a new record with Clutchy Hopkins, Rennie was taking some time off from his extensive DJ touring, Dan was inbetween films and Dimitri was bracing himself as his underground track with Deano ‘Fils du Commissaire’ was blowing up in France.

Dan Berridge – Changes

Dimitri – Southwest

Rennie Pilgrem – Changes
