Charming and unique, individual and idiosyncratic, yet always with an air of something familiar and gratifying. Sometimes eccentric and quirky right before being pleasingly predictable. Utterly melodious. Bold and bright. Thoughtful, insightful, then off hand and humorous. Hear it for yourself.

Song writing and melody is at the helm of what I do, followed closely by sharp guitars and a strong, soulful voice. My influences run from the likes of David Byrne, Paul Simon and Randy Newman to Eminem, Michael Jackson and Van Halen… and everything good in-between. I love good music. As a result there is a certain diversity to the outcome of my writing, yet I always try to structure it in an accessible manner.

Ian Britt & a hat

Having released the debut album “One Day i…” (Jalapeno Records, London, 2005) I then went on to self record and release a mini album (“Big Light” 07) and an E.P (“What ilk?”08) Since the first album I have had to find my own ways of framing and recording the songs, largely due to a lack of decent equipment and recording time. I always endeavoured to carve my own path as an artist.

Ian Britt - steady as a rock

It has become life like that of a journey man; Getting involved with the turbulence of labels and management only to then find myself totally alone again three years later was just the beginning. I have worked on many projects whilst always pushing my own work forward. Notably I worked as writer for the break-beat collective “IKON,” with which I saw the songs I co-wrote appear in Pete Tongs “Eclectic Mix” and then as the collective we performed at BBC RADIO 1’s “Live Weekend” as well as the Big Chill festival.

I’ve performed extensively and all over the world, including SXSW in Texas. I’ve toured Holland and Belgium numerous times over the last two years and have begun to make an impact there. I began to build a great team around me in Holland and have had national radio plays and support from big Radio DJ’s as well as having supported some of the bigger acts in the larger venues, always pulling in lots of new fans with each new trip. However, last year I suffered a massive blow with the untimely death of my then manager and good friend, Tim Westnutt. Almost back to square one again, only with a little more history in the bag.

So here I am, working on completion of my new album with a view to returning to Holland in 2010 to further the success there as well as to stimulate the attention in the U.K.

There’s much I have missed out but time is short.

I live in Sheffield if you deem that important.

Glad to make your acquaintance.

Come follow me…..

Ian Britt is on PED F026 – “Transatlantic song & sound”
